Obit: Abraham Abukoff

Abraham Abukoff died Thursday, Dec. 12, at home. He was 89.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Abukoff resided in Fanwood, N.J., and East Brunswick, N.J., before moving to Old Bridge, N.J., in 1986. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served during both World War II and the Korean War.

Prior to retiring in 2003, Mr. Abukoff was a sports copy editor for the Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J., where he worked since 1964. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Turkel and her husband, Marc Friedman, of Old Bridge, and Debi Rosen of Sunrise, Fla.; his son, Scott Abukoff of Hawaii; a sister, Gertrude Pinsky of Port Hueneme, Calif.; five grandchildren, Matthew, Scott, Julie, Joshua, and Danielle, and one great-granddaughter, Mallory. Cremation was private under the direction of the Brunswick Memorial Home in East Brunswick, N.J.
