Obit: Peter Syrokwash

Syrokwash lived most of his adult life in East Brunswick.

Peter Syrokwash, 90, of Toms River, passed away on November 11, 2013 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

Mr. Syrokwash was born in South River, N.J. and attended South River High School. Upon graduation, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Organization, fulfilling a lifelong dream. For three years, Peter proudly served his country in the 1105th Engineer Combat Group of the U.S. Army during World War II on the front line. Upon his return to civilian life, he attended New York Tech and began his career as a mechanical contractor.

He was, for many years, a partner at Boro Plumbing and Heating in South River. Mr. Syrokwash lived most of his adult life in East Brunswick before moving to Toms River. He was an avid sportsman, excelling at baseball, bowling and golf. Peter was a devoted husband and father, spending many memorable summers in Manasquan with his family at their home there. He was a tireless cheerleader and supporter of his children.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Natasha Syrokwash, and his sister Mary Yodakis. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Olga Syrokwash, as well as his children and their spouses, Joanne and Dale Ross, of Richmond, Va., Mary and David Earl, of Westfield, N.J., and Nancy and Nicholas Yankowicz of Allentown, N.J. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Hunter, Brooks, Amanda, Lucy, Evan, and Dean.

A celebration of Peter's life will take place on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Neary Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street in Manasquan from 1 to 3 pm concluding with Military honors. For more information or to post a tribute, please visit www.neary-quinnfuneralhome.com.
