OBITUARY: Franklin T. Barnes

Franklin T. Barnes died Sunday.

Franklin T. Barnes, 66, died Sunday, Aug. 12, at home.

Born in New Brunswick, he was a lifelong South River resident. Prior to his retirement 2 years ago, he was a mechanic with U-Haul in East Brunswick for 12 years.

He was an Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam War.

He enjoyed fishing and crabbing; he liked good food and beer.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret M. "Peggy" Smith Barnes; two sons, Jonah and his fiancée Kelly MacDougall of Long Branch, and Thomas and his wife Theresa of Spotswood; a sister, Barbara and her husband Robert Grossman of Old Bridge; two granddaughters, Colleen and Kaley; his two cats, Er and Katie, and his dog Daisy.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. in the , 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Interment will follow at the NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Middlesex County, F2B Briar Hill Court, East Brunswick, N.J. 08816.
