Obituary: Joseph F. Costello

Costello was a Marine Corps veteran and a lifetime member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in Old Bridge.

Joseph F. Costello died Friday, May 3, 2013 at the home of his daughter in Virginia Beach, VA, surrounded by his family. He was 83.

Born in Jersey City, he resided in Old Bridge for 55 years before moving to Jackson.

Prior to his retirement in 1992, he was a plant operator for the Old Bridge MUA for 30 years.

He was a Marine Corps Veteran during Peacetime, and was a lifetime member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in Old Bridge.

He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret in 1989, and by a daughter, Mary Ascough in 2012.

He was adored by his family and will be sorely missed.

Surviving are two sons, John of Manahawkin, and Matthew of Jupiter, FL; three daughters, Kathleen Meekins of Virginia Beach, VA, Patricia McFadden of Jackson, and Judith Lempfert of Jackson; a son in law, Gary Ascough of Howell; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by a 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
