Obituary: Lourdes Licata

Lourdes Licata was president of the Spotswood Seniors and an active volunteer at the Spotswood Senior Center.

Lourdes (Lourie) Hernandez Licata, 89, of Spotswood, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2013. 

Lourie was born in Gibraltar and she came to the U.S. when she was 9. She worked for the Spotswood School District as a cook.  Lourie was an active member of the PTA and numerous civic organizations. 

As a senior citizen she was active in the Spotswood Senior Center where she served as an interpreter and volunteer. She crocheted items for new born infants as part of a volunteer project.  Her love for bingo, friends and above all family made Lourie a special person.

She was President of the Spotswood Seniors and was in charge of the Atlantic City trips.  She was given a Special Recognition Award of a Senior Citizen Award by the Knights of Columbus in Spotswood. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Diego and Elia Hernandez.

Lourie is survived by her children, Dr. Lorraine Licata and her partner, Laura Napolitano, Paul and his wife, Anita, James and his wife, Kristie, and Elizabeth Esposito and her husband, John, grandchildren, Cassandra Link, Samantha, Jessica, Paul III and Tyler Licata, Christopher, Evan, and Lucas Esposito and Alyssa and Katie Egstrand and great-grandchildren Isabella and Kenneth Link and MacKenzie Licata. 

Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday at the Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick, followed by a 9:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood.

Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 2-6 p.m. Sunday.
