LETTER: Holt Supports Affordable Care Act

U.S. Rep. Rush Holt says the act, like so many others in America's past, will be tweaked and refined over time.

To the Editor:

The essence of the Affordable Care Act is to guarantee, through a variety of approaches, that every American can count on having access to excellent health care.

We still have much work to do.  Every major piece of American legislation ever passed, from Social Security to Medicare to the Civil Rights Act, has been refined and improved over the years.  So, too, the Affordable Care Act will be refined and improved as we gain experience with it. Today’s decision ensures that we can continue making progress toward the goal of guaranteeing access to excellent health care for every American.

Every politician has their own agenda. Democrats like to look out for themselves and have been caught quite often in this state trying to get away with many things hoping that the people didn't find out. Republicans prefer to line up their own votes by being funded by rich execs, big companies, and rewarding private industry (like the health care industry) by taking care of those companies when they're in office. (They're both generalizations, I know, but they kind of earned that rep.) It's quite rare when a politician makes decisions on what he/she thinks is the best for their constituents and not the political line. When we do find politicians like that we don't tend to believe them anyway since the reputation of the position itself has become a complete farce.

Wow....liberal loon supports socialist program. Now that's breaking news!

Yet you have John Runyon and Romney screaming about how unfair it is that Medicare is being "cut" by $500 billion for the health program. So, which is it? Do the Republicans hate socialist things (like Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare), or do they just say that to gather up some good old American votes? Because you can't say that you hate these socialist ideas of the left, and then whine about it when the left wants to phase out a half billion dollars to these programs over the next 10 years. If the Republicans really were against socialist programs, they would be happy that even the Dems want to spend less on Medicare, even at the cost of a new healthcare program to keep Americans with health insurance. Face it, each side would argue that the sky is red if the other side was positive it was blue.

While not the least bit surprising, it is significant that Holt makes a point of reinforcing his support for Obamacare AFTER the Supreme Court reveals it to be a monstrous new TAX on the middle class. This is what Rush Holt stands for and the more people who know it, the better. .

We are less free today because of this SCOTUS decision. They have said anything the government chooses to impose on the people, as long as their mechanism for compliance is through taxes and tax penalties, is Constitutional. Today it's you must have healthcare, tomorrow it could be how many MPG's your car must have or pay a pollution penalty, the next day it could be some other onerous resolution compelling you to purchase or behave in a specific manner. This new law, which we now can say is a giant taxation, will hit the middle class who don't have employer sponsored healthcare plans, make too much for state and federal programs, but are not so wealthy that they can easily afford these premiums the absolute hardest. We are putting a giant tax on people who may very well have lost their jobs but have retained ability to earn a living so they can support their families, meaning they are not a burden on society. This is wrong in every possible way.
