Deputy Chief Named Police Director (Video)

Deputy Chief William Krause will assume the role of Police Director.

After being sworn in as East Brunswick’s new Deputy Chief, William Krause was named Director of Public Safety, putting him in charge of the township’s police department.

“No individual could ask for a finer core of officers to command, finer group of colleagues to work with or a finer group of friends,” Deputy Chief Krause said during the searing in ceremony, Friday.

Deputy Chief Krause replaces Barry Roberson, who retired from the position earlier this year. Deputy Chief Krause has been in law enforcement for 21 years and has earned eight departmental awards for exceptional criminal arrests.

He spent eight years in the Operations Division as a Patrol Officer before being promoted to sergeant. As a sergeant he spent three years in the Operations Division as a patrol sergeant and three years in the Investigative Division as a detective sergeant. Upon being promoted to lieutenant, Deputy Chief Krause was assigned to the Office of Professional Standards. In 2010, Deputy Chief Krause was promoted to captain and assumed command of the Administrative Division. In early 2011, he also assumed command of the Investigative Division.

Deputy Chief Krause attended Rutgers University from 1983 through 1987, and was awarded his bachelor’s in sociology from Thomas Edison State College in 2001. He earned a master’s degree in public administration from City University, in Washington State.

He also is a firearms instructor, field-training officer, and has commanded the department's hostage negotiations team. He has

earned eight departmental awards for exceptional criminal arrests.

In addition, Deputy Chief Krause is a graduate of the 237th session of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy.

Deputy Chief Krause said it is an honor to serve the department and thank those who selected him to both positions.

“No single individual is able to be successful without the trust, support and confidence of those around him, this situation is no different,” he said.

“I owe a debt of gratitude to every supervisor I have worked with throughout my career.  From each of them I have learned valuable lessons that ultimately helped me develop as a leader,” he said.

Mayor David Stahl praised Deputy Chief Krause’s work and said he is confident in the job he would do.

“I know the department is in great hands with you as a leader,” he said to Deputy Chief Krause.
