EB Police Announce Officer Promotions

Three veteran officers will be promoted and a new officer has been hired to the township police force.

On Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the East Brunswick Municipal Courtroom, The East Brunswick Department of Public Safety will promote three of its officers and the hiring of a new officer to fill vacancies left by retired superior officers. Lieutenant Michael Knoll, Lieutenant Kevin F Zebro, Sergeant Wade Gordon and Patrolman Robert Thuring will be promoted to their respective positions.

Lieutenant Michael Knoll, a 19 year veteran of the East Brunswick Police Department, will be promoted to Lieutenant. He began his career in 1994 as a Patrolman in the Patrol Section after graduating from the Somerset County Police Academy. In 2001, he was transferred to the Investigative and Administrative Division to work in Project 18, the Department’s Community Policing Unit. In 2009, he was transferred back to the Patrol Section.

In 2010, Lieutenant Knoll was promoted to Sergeant and transferred back to the Administrative Division as Assistant Administrative Division Commander. Lieutenant Knoll was recently transferred back to the Patrol Section in anticipation of his newest promotion.

Lieutenant Knoll has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Administration of Justice from Rutgers University and a Masters of Arts degree in Education Administration from Seton Hall University. Lieutenant Knoll had been a member of the East Brunswick SCUBA team for 10 years. Lieutenant Knoll also served as the department’s Rangemaster and training coordinator, also instructing at the Somerset County Police Academy. He has received a Life Saving Award and several letters of commendation throughout his career.

He will be assigned to the Operations Division as a Station Commander.

Lieutenant Kevin F Zebro, a 19 year veteran of the East Brunswick Police Department, will be promoted to Lieutenant. He began his career in 1994 as a Patrolman in the Patrol Section after graduating from the Somerset County Police Academy. In 2002, he was transferred to the Investigative Division as a Detective. He worked in the Narcotics Unit as well as general case assignments, including Arson Investigations. In 2006, he was temporarily transferred to the New Jersey State Police to conduct internet investigations involving child pornography and conduct computer forensic examinations. He became a member of the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. In 2008, he returned to the Investigative Division and formed the High Tech Crimes Unit.

In 2010, he was promoted to Sergeant and worked as a Detective Sergeant in the Investigative Division. In 2011, he was reassigned to the Office of Professional Standards to conduct Internal Affairs Investigations and serve as the Department’s Public Information Officer.

Lieutenant Zebro has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Kean University and is currently working towards a Masters of Arts degree in Education Administration from Seton Hall University. Lieutenant Zebro is a member of the East Brunswick Police Department’s SWAT Team and was a member of the Department’s SCUBA team. He has received a Life Saving Award and several letters of commendation throughout his career.

He will be assigned to the Office of Professional Standards where he will serve as the Section’s Commander.

Sergeant Wade Gordon, a 13 year veteran of the East Brunswick Police Department will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He began his police career with the Seaside Heights Police Department following his graduation from the Ocean County Police Academy in 1998. In 2000, he was hired by the East Brunswick Police Department as a Patrolman.

Sergeant Gordon has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Monmouth University. Sergeant Gordon served as a Field Training Officer and is a Certified Drug Recognition Expert. He has received a Life Saving Award and several letters of commendation throughout his career.

He will be assigned to the Operations Division where he will serve as a Squad Supervisor.

Patrolman Robert Thuring will become the newest member of the East Brunswick Police Department. Patrolman Thuring, a Spotswood resident, is 25 years old and a graduate of Spotswood High School and Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Patrolman Thuring began his police career in 2011 after graduating from the Somerset County Police Academy as an alternate route and becoming a Patrolman in the Monroe Police Department.

After completing his field training, Patrolman Thuring will be assigned to the Patrol Section.
