A member of the Laurence Harbor First Aid Squad surrendered to Old Bridge Police today on chargers of improperly touching himself in front of a teenage girl, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Matthew McClelland, 41, of Matawan Road in the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge was charged with criminal sexual contact, lewdness and harassment after he surrendered at 2:35 p.m. today at Old Bridge Police headquarters.
He surrendered with his attorney, Anthony Palumbo, after chargers were filed Thursday, Sept. 6. McClelland was released from custody after posting $2,500 bail.
The charges were filed after Investigator Karleen Duca of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Detective Richard Tulko of the Old Bridge Police Department determined that McClelland exposed and improperly touched himself while the girl was at the first aid squad building on July 13, 2012.
Several days after the incident, the girl told a friend, who notified squad authorities, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The investigation into the incident is continuing. Anyone with information on this or similar incidents is asked to call Investigator Duca of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3600, or Detective Tulko of the Old Bridge Police Department at 732-721-5600.
As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against McClelland are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
