Three Hurt in Sunday Accident

Two women suffered serious injuries following an accident on Helmetta Boulevard.

Three people were treated for injuries—two of them serious— at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital following an accident on Helmetta Boulevard, Sunday.

Police said Mary Melillo, 46, was driving her 2002 Ford south on Helmetta Boulevard when she lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the northbound lane. Melillo tried to correct her mistake and swerved back into the southbound lane, but ran off the road and hit a tree on the driver’s side.

East Brunswick Fire Districts 1 and 3 responded to the scene to remove the driver and passenger.

According to police, Melillo and her mother, Ethel Bunn, 73, of North Brunswick were both unconscious. Melillo’s 15-year-old son, who was in the backseat, sustained minor injuries. All three were wearing their seatbelts.

All three were taken to Robert Wood by the he East Brunswick Rescue Squad, Spotswood Rescue Squad and Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.  Melillo and Bunn both suffered serious injuries.
