Three Officers to get Promotions

As retired officers leave, new officers are being promoted to take their place.

Three officers will be promoted today at 3 p.m. in the East Brunswick Municipal Court Room.

Capt. Russell MacArthur, Lt. Mark Csizmar and Sgt. Christopher Soke will be promoted to their respective positions.

Capt. MacArthur is a 20-year veteran of the East Brunswick Police Department.  He was assigned to the patrol section upon his graduation from the Middlesex County Police Academy in 1991.   In 1998, he was promoted to sergeant in the Patrol Section where he served as a squad supervisor.   In 1999, he was transferred to the newly created Office of Public Information where he assumed the responsibility of Quasi-Duty Supervisor, Dispatch Supervisor and Special Police Liaison.   In 2004, Capt. MacArthur was promoted to Lieutenant after returning to the Patrol Division.  During his tenure as lieutenant, he served as a Watch Commander in the Patrol Section, the Internal Affairs Officer, Assistant Administrative Division Commander, Deputy Operations Division Commander and the Traffic Section Commander.

Capt. MacArthur received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Rutgers University, and a master’s degree in education from Seton Hall University. He is a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Program and was invited back to instruct the course at the Atlantic County Public Safety Academy.  He served as a member and commander of the SCUBA Team, served as the Terminal Agency Coordinator for the NCIC System, and currently serves on the Township Safety Board.  He has received several letters of commendation.

Capt. MacArthur will be assigned to the Administrative/Investigative Division as the Division Commander.

Lt. Csizmar is a 23 -year veteran of the East Brunswick Police Department.  He was trained at the Sea Girt Police Academy where he was elected class president.  He served in the Patrol Division until September 1991 when he was transferred to the office of the Director as a D.A.R.E. Instructor and Community Policing Officer.  In March of 1998, he was transferred to the detective bureau.  During his assignment as a detective, he served as a Task Force Officer with the United States Secret Service and the United States Customs Service in Newark.  He was transferred back to the Patrol Division in December 2003 and promoted to the rank of sergeant in May 2005.  In July 2009, he was transferred to the traffic section and served as the interim Traffic Commander and supervisor of the Motorcycle Unit.

Lt. Csizmar serves as the department Range Master.  He is a past President of PBA Local No. 145.  He has served as a member and supervisor on the department SWAT team for over 13 years.  Lt. Csizmar earned his bachelor’s degree from Centenary College in 2007 and his master’s degree from Seton Hall University in 2011.  He is a graduate of the N.J.S.A.C.O.P. Command and Leadership program. 

Lt. Csizmar has received three Meritorious Service Awards and several Letters of Commendation during his career.

Lt. Csizmar will be assigned to the Operations Division where he will serve as Squad Commander.

Sgt. Christopher Soke is a 20-year veteran of the East Brunswick Police Department.  After graduating from the Middlesex County Police Academy in 1991, he was assigned to the Patrol Division.  Along with service in the Patrol Division, Sgt. Soke has also been assigned to the Department’s Investigative Division as an undercover Narcotics Detective as well as serving in the Anti-Crime Unit. Sgt. Soke has been an Accident Reconstructionist with the Traffic Section for the last nine years.

Sgt. Soke was a member of the Department’s SWAT Team for 10 years and has been used as a Field Training Officer.  He has earned the Distinguished Service Award as well as numerous Letters of Commendation.  Sgt. Soke attends Caldwell College and is pursuing a degree in management.  His father, John Soke, is a retired Deputy Chief from the East Brunswick Police. 

Sgt. Soke will be assigned to the Traffic Section where he will serve as the Assistant Section Commander.
