Updated Local, County Crime Stats Available Online

The N.J. State Police website will be updated weekly with municipal and county crime statistics.

The New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Reporting Unit has announced that comparative crime data is now available for public viewing on the state police website.

The data will be updated weekly, or as often as municipalities provide data, according to a press release from the State Police.

“For the first time, we are able to give the public a sense of the current crime picture in their area. Even as preliminary data, this will be a great new tool for the public,” said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police in a prepared statement.

Data is available by county and state totals, broken down by race, ethnicity, sex, age and offense. It also looks specifically at crime rates in New Jersey cities and resort towns, and the number of officers killed or injured in the line of duty.

Locally, in Middlesex County, 23,664 arrests were reported in 2011, according to the data. Of those arrests, 1,873 of those arrests were of juveniles.

The data on the web site is unverified, and may be updated for the State Police's annual "Crime in New Jersey" report, which will continue to be published annually in the fall, the release said.
