The East Brunswick Police Department promoted three veteran officers to new positions and swore-in a new patrolman on Thursday.

The East Brunswick Police Department promoted three veteran officers to new positions and welcomed a new officer to the department on Thursday.

Patrolman Robert Thuring joins the police force after working as a patrolman in Monroe Township, according to the police department. He graduated from the Somerset County Police Academy as an Alternate Route candidate, and received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Rutgers University in 2011.

Lt. Michael Knoll has worked in the East Brunswick Police Department for 19 years, having worked in numerous divisions, according to the police department. He will be assigned to the Patrol Section as a Watch Commander.

Lt. Kevin Zebro has worked in the East Brunswick Police Department for 19 years, and was promoted to the position of Sergeant in August 2010. He will be assigned as Section Commander to the Office of Professional Standards.

Sgt. Wade Gordon has worked for the East Brunswick Police Department for 14 years, and has served as a Field Training Officer and a certified Drug Recognition Expert for the department. He will be assigned as a Squad Supervisor to the Operations Division, according to the police department.

Deputy Chief William Krause Jr. said the department is one of the finest in the state because of it's intensive screening and hiring process.

Addressing Thuring, Krause said the new officer has been given a chance to prove his worth to the department and to show them he belongs there. And they will take care of him, he said.

"We will make sure Robert is trained, properly equipped and looked after at all times," Krause said.

Mayor David Stahl, who read the oath of office to each officer, extended a thanks to the department for the work they do, especially in light of recent events around town, like the fire at Hall's Corner this past weekend.

"Thank you on behalf of a very grateful community," Stahl said.
