Police are investigating an accident during the early morning hours of Saturday that left a Monroe woman in serious condition.

According to police, Marian Riley, 58, brought her 2001 Toyota Tundra to a stop on Taft Place near its intersection with Old Stage Road.

Riley left the vehicle with the intention of switching seats with passenger, Patricia Costello, 66, of Seaside Heights. Police said, however, that Riley didn’t put the vehicle in park but left it in reverse with the front wheels turned. As she and the passenger left the car, it began to move, hitting Riley and knocking her to the ground. The vehicle continued to travel in reverse over a curb and off the road, where it hit two street signs and eventually hit Riley at least one more time as it traveled in a circle.
