Township Council Briefs

The East Brunswick Township Council met April 9 and discussed programs for returning veterans, alcohol awareness month, and other issues.

The East Brunswick Township Council held an action meeting at the municipal court at 8 p.m., Monday, April 9. The meeting, led by Council President Michael Hughes, discussed several different ordinances and resolutions concerning the town’s spending and awareness programs.

Honoring Legion Leader

The Township Council honored Fang A. Wong, chief executive officer and official spokesman of the American Legion in East Brunswick, for service to the community. The Legion has played a vital part in assuring that all veterans and future veterans are taken care of upon their return from duty.

“There will be thousands and thousands of young men and women coming back from the war,” Wong said as he addressed the board.  “Keep up the good work, I extend my hand to you and I hope that in the future we can work together to take care of veterans within our community.”

Alcohol Awareness Efforts

The Township Council recognized April as Alcohol Awareness month. It made note of how detrimental alcohol is to teenagers by stating several facts including how alcohol is one of the four leading causes of death for young person’s age 10-21.

The council wants to join with others in advancing efforts to strengthen the enforcement of underage drinking laws and partnering with local agencies to prevent drinking and alcoholism.

Donations Solicitations Approved

The Township Council granted The Milltown Rescue Squad permission to solicit donations door-to-door beginning May 1 through May 31 between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.  weekends. 

New Vehicles for Public Works

With a need to replace vehicles, the Division of Public Works has been authorized to purchase two Ford F-350 trucks for plowing during the winter season. The trucks will cost $30,500 each.

Co-op Services

East Brunswick will serve as lead agency and provide cooperative services for gasoline, diesel fuel, snow removal chemicals, and roadway construction materials. As lead agency, East Brunswick will increase the cost of these commodities by .05 percent.

Crystal Springs Suppplies

Univar USA Inc., as the lowest responsible bidder, has been awarded a contract for the year 2012 to supply Crystal Springs with the sodium hypochlorite necessary to sanitize and run their facilities during the summer. The price per gallon is $1.47 and was 2 cents lower than Chemical Equipment Labs Incorporated and 20 cents lower than the other competitors.
