Fire District Elections Today

Voters get their say on fire budgets and Board of Fire Commissioners.

Voters will get their say on fire budgets and who will serve on their respective Board of Fire commissioners on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Polls for fire elections will be open from 2 to 9 p.m.

Fire District 1, Old Bridge Volunteer Fire Company:   There are two Fire Commissioner positions up for election.  Incumbent Fred Hoover is running for re-election.  Also running are Michael Mosher and Kathleen Yager for the three-year terms on the Board of Fire Commissioners.  Incumbent Greg Marciniak is not seeking re-election.  Voting will take place at the Fire House at 5 Pine St., East Brunswick.  http://www.ebfd1.org/.

Voters will get their say on a $2.276 million budget that calls for $1.9 million to be raised by taxes. The budget carries a tax rate of 26 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Under that rate, the owner of a home assessed at $100,000 can expect to pay $260 in fire taxes for 2012.

Fire District 2, East Brunswick Independent Fire Company:  There are two Fire Commissioner positions up for election.  Incumbents Paul Colon and Alan Weissman are running for re-election. They will be challenged by Bernie Olender for a three-year term. Voting will take place at the William C. Peck Administration Building, 216 Joseph St., East Brunswick.  http://www.ebifc.com/.

Fire District 3, Brookview Volunteer Fire Company:  There are two Fire Commissioner positions up for election.  Incumbent David Wood is running for re-election.  He is being challenged by Thomas Duffy and Thomas Wojtowicz for a three-year term on the Board of Fire Commissioners.  Incumbent Abe Nemani is not seeking re-election.  Voting will take place at the Fire House at 361 Dunhams Corner Road at the intersection of Church Lane, East Brunswick.   http://www.brookviewfire.com/

Voters will get their say on a $620,614 budget that calls for $608,614 to be raised by taxation. The budget is $631 more than last year and carries a fire tax rate of 25.5 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Under that rate, the owner of a home assessed at $100,000 can expect to pay $255 in fire taxes for 2012.
