Garbage Collection: Here's What You Said

Most residents seem to approve of the township's garbage collection policy.

Despite the inconvenience of having garbage collection just once a week for much of the year, East Brunswick Patch readers say the system is working fine.

On Monday, the township moved to its spring and summer collection schedule. with garbage being collected twice a week until the fall.  Every year, the township provides garbage collection twice a week in the spring and summer and once-a-week collection during the fall, winter and some of the spring.

Mayor David Stahl said the schedule, put into place several years ago, was made after much research and discussion and that the change has been successful in that it provides enough of a cost savings to produce a reduction in municipal taxes.

Residents who voted in this week’s poll seem to agree.

“(I think it was a great suggestion) but I would still like twice a week pick-up,” said a poster named Lisa. “Instead of short-changing the public on services, we would all be better served if the administrative costs were reduced as well as staff positions. But of course, that is an unfavorable suggestion.”

Anthony Riccobono agreed.

“Thank and I agree, twice a week pickups were better, particularly if you missed one, but the savings have been significant. Because no one left the table truly happy or totally dissatisfied, it worked. Your other point is well taken, many well paid experienced personnel are retiring while there will be savings in costs there will be a loss as well.”
