Middlesex County Democrats to Fill Vacant Freeholder Seat

Stephen "Pete" Dalina died last month. His term expires Jan. 1.

The Middlesex County Democrats will fill the freeholder seat left vacant with the death of Stephen “Pete” Dalina, nj.com reports.

Middlesex County Democratic Organization Chairman Kevin McCabe told nj.com the group will hold a county committee convention on Nov. 2 to appoint someone to fill the remainder of the term, which expires Jan. 1.

Dalina died last month at the age of 83.

The former Woodbridge councilman was first elected freeholder in 1990, and announced earlier this year he wouldn’t seek another term in office, according to the report.

Democrats Blanquita Valenti, Kenneth Armwood and Charles Kenny will face Republicans Roger Daley, Jordan Rickards and David Rosenthal in the Nov. 5 elections.

According to an obituary posted on mycentraljersey.com, Dalina was a lifelong Woodbridge Township resident, having been born in Keasbey and lived in Fords.

He served in the US Coast Guard, and was an ex-chief of the Fords Fire Company. 

He was the longtime owner of Dalina’s Tavern and Restaurant in Fords.
