Middlesex County Office of Public Health to Offer Flu Vaccinations in East Brunswick

Flu and pneumococcal vaccines will be available to local residents.

The Middlesex County Office of Public Health has announced that flu vaccinations will be available throughout December for local residents.

All county residents six months of age and older are urged to get a flu vaccine, according to the Office.

Vaccines will be provided without appointments and cost $15, cash only, with no bill larger than $20 accepted, according to the Office. Medicare users must present a valid Medicare card during their visit.

Penumococcal vaccines will also be available to county residents ages 65 and older who have not previously had it administered. Pneumococcal vaccines cost $20 each, cash only, with no bill larger than $20 accepted, according to the county. Medicare users must present a valid Medicare card during their visit.

Middlesex County Public Health Acting Director and Health Officer Karen Antonitis said that the county is no longer offering needle-free flu injectors, which the FDA recently deemed to be ineffective.

"During this flu season our department offered patients the option to receive a "needle free" vaccination through the use of jet injectors. As a result of the FDA communication, the Middlesex County Office of Public Health will no longer offer needle free influenza vaccinations in order to adhere to the recommendations set forth by the FDA," Antonitis said in an email to New Brunswick Patch.
