East Brunswick councilwoman Nancy Pinkin has been confirmed as a Democratic candidate to run for Assembly in the 18th district.

East Brunswick councilwoman Nancy Pinkin has been confirmed as a Democratic candidate to run for Assembly in the 18th district.

Pinkin will run on the ticket of Assemblyman Peter Barnes (NJ-18), a Democrat who was elected to General Assembly in 2007 and has served as Whip since 2010.

Pinkin will campaign for Barnes' 18th district assembly seat while he runs to fill the seat of Sen. Barbara Buono, who is currently campaigning for governor.

Their ticket is rounded out by Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan, whose 18th district seat is also up for election.

Pinkin said that she is "very excited" about the endorsement and after nine years serving as a council member in East Brunswick, is looking forward to bringing what she's learned about efficient and effective government to a statewide level.

Pinkin said she is interested in actively tackling women's issues, affordable healthcare, housing and college, and job creation.

"I'm committed to keeping New Jersey affordable," she said.

East Brunswick Mayor David Stahl was campaigning to be the Republican nominee to face Barnes for Buono's seat.

Stahl did not return requests for comment on Tuesday.

Locally, there will be no council elections in East Brunswick this year, according to township clerk Nennette Perry. Three seats will be up for re-election next year, she said.
