Stahl to Announce Senate Run, Party Switch on Tuesday

Mayor David Stahl is expected to announce his Senate candidacy and new Republican affiliation on Tuesday morning.

Mayor David Stahl is expected to announce his candidacy for Senate on Tuesday morning, according to a report on Politicker.

Anonymous sources tell the website that Stahl also plans to make the switch from Democrat to Republican, and back Gov. Chris Christie for re-election.

Stahl would run against Assemblyman Peter Barnes (D-18) for a seat left vacant by Sen. Barbara Buono's move to run for governor against Christie, according to the report.

Stahl is expected to make the announcement at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Colonial Diner, according to an NJ.com report.

In 2011, he crossed party lines to endorse Republican Marcia Silva for Assembly.

Stahl did not return a request for comment on Monday afternoon.
