Healthy Kids Day at RVY Results in Happy, Mud-soaked Kids
On April 26th, YMCAs all over the nation celebrated Healthy Kids Day, dedicated to promoting exercise and healthy living for kids all over the nation. While all Ys promote healthy kids, Raritan Valley YMCA may have had this year’s dirtiest kids.
The main event for this year’s celebration at RVY was the “Mini Mud Run,” a kid-sized version of an obstacle-course race. Obstacles included an army crawl through the mud, running through tires, a spider web of tangled ropes, a fitness gauntlet, and an underground tunnel of mud.
Once the race ended, many of the participants, age 7 to 16, decided that they weren’t dirty enough. Many kids decided to go through the course a second time, crawling back through the mud with an even bigger smile than they had the first time.

The YMCA employees were also ready to prove that life’s best days leave you covered in mud. After the kids were done, an impromptu competition developed between race organizer Caleb Hunt and YMCA Executive Director Gina Stravic, to see who could complete the tunnel obstacle fastest. Stravic won easily, as the larger Hunt struggled to fit through the kid-sized underground tunnel.
