Central School Drive Needs Clothes

The Central School PTA is collecting clothes, linens, soft and hard toys, shoes and more for a fundraising drive.

Sometimes they’re piled high in the closet – shoes and shirts, and toys and bags. Other times they’re under the bed, poking out here and there and making a general mess out of everything.

But now there is a solution. If you have too many clothes, or toys, or tote bags or pocket books or shoes you can bring them to Central School and put them to good use here, and elsewhere. The school is running a fundraiser March 1 through March 4 by collecting gently used clothes and other items to be donated to Fashion Republic Inc. Fashion Republic will pay the school 13 cents per pound of clothes donated and 15 cents for every pound of shoes collected. In addition, for every 5,000 pounds collected, the school will get an additional $1o0. Proceeds will go to fund end of the year activities for the school’s fifth-graders, and donated items will go to people in need throughout the world.

“This what they do, they run clothing drives, but not just clothing drives. They collect bedding, pillows, all useable stuff, shoes, handbags, brief cases, and they take it all and they give us money,” said MaryLynn Riemann, a member of the Central School PTA and an organizer of the event. “The company, what they do with the stuff is they send it overseas…they send it over to where it can be used. It works out for everybody.”

End of the year activities for fifth-graders at Central will include a picnic with a DJ and, if there is enough money, small gifts for each of the graduates. The celebration is just one of the ways PTA members and the school community try to make the students’ final year in the school a great one.

Donations can be dropped off during school hours March 1 through March 4, (parent/teacher conference week) with donations being collected at 9:30 a.m. March 7.
