District Seeks Public Input for Superintendent Search

Superintendent Jo Ann Magistro announced that this will be her last year with the district.

Have your say in what you would like to see in a new Superintendent of Schools.

The East Brunswick Board of Education will hold a “Community Input Session” to get information to be used in setting criteria needed to choose a new superintendent of schools.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hammarskjold Middle School Auditorium (the East Brunswick Performing Arts Center).

Superintendent Jo Ann Magistro announced her retirement earlier this fall. She has been with the district since 1971.

Search consultant, Gwen H. Thornton of the New Jersey School Boards Association will explain the search procedure, the role played by the board, the staff and the public in the process, and the calendar for the actual search.

Discussion will center on the strengths, concerns, on-going issues and future initiatives. Information gathered, together with input from other focus groups, will be used to shape a variety of candidate review documents and the interview questions.

The district also is asking residents to fill out a survey to help guide it’s search.

Hmmm..so I think it is a positive that the residents/tax payers of EB have an opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns. However, why do we need a "Search Consultant" to do this and at what cost to us? Do we not have an HR department (Director) that can perform these duties? If he/she is not qualified to do so WHY NOT? That should be a required function their job correct?

It's a waste of time. They are not going to listen to anything the residents suggest anyway. They never do. But just for sh*ts & giggles here's a suggestion ... don't pay the new one as much as Magistro and maybe our school taxes can go down a bit!
