East Brunswick High School Receives High Marks on State Report Card

The NJ State Report cards shows high performances at East Brunswick High School in academic performance and college readiness.

High school students in East Brunswick are performing well in the three R's, according to a report card issued by the state. 

The NJ School Performance Reports measure student performance in a number of areas, including math, reading and science, SAT scores, performance gaps, and AP course enrollment. 

The reports for 2011-12 include new data on college and career readiness, while providing comparison to “peer schools” in order to provide a more complete overview of performance for educators and the public, according to the DOE.

Peer schools have similar grade levels and demographic characteristics, including the percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, limited English proficiency programs and special education programs.

These new school performance reports were developed with the input of stakeholders across the state and provide a significant amount of new data to present a more complete picture of school performance,” said state Education Commissioner Chris Cerf. “We hope this data will help schools and stakeholders engage in local goal setting and improvement to help all students graduate from high school ready for college and career.”

East Brunswick High School was ranked high in academic achievement when compared to other schools across the state.

Academic achievement includes student performance in math and reading and writing on the 11th grade HSPA test.

When compared to schools across the state, the school was rated high in college and career readiness, and very high when compared to its peers, according to the report. College and career readiness is measured by student participation in AP courses in math, reading, social studies and science and in the SAT and PSAT college placement tests, according to the report.

Science performance at the high school dipped a bit over last year, with a schoolwide proficiency rate of 60 percent, and an 11 percent advanced proficient rate.

In 2010-11, the school scored 23 percent advanced proficient in biology and 50 percent proficient. 

On the SAT, 66 percent of the students taking the test scored 1550 or higher, notably higher than the peer average of 43 percent, according to the report.

The school's overall graduation rate was a solid 95.6 percent and a higher graduation rate than 90 percent of the schools in its peer group. Statistics from the class of 2011.
