East Brunswick School Briefs: Vendor Night, Zumba Fundraiser Upcoming

Upcoming events in the East Brunswick School District.

EAST BRUNSWICK PUBLIC SCHOOLS CELEBRATES AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK WITH SCHOOL VISITATION DAY ON NOV. 20

The week of Nov. 18 – 22 has been proclaimed American Education Week 2013.  Celebrated annually, the theme of this year’s American Education Week is Raise Your Hand for Student Success. In recognition of American Education Week and to celebrate East Brunswick’s excellent public schools, parents are invited to visit their child’s school on Nov. 20.  The schedule will be as follows:

  • Elementary Schools:  9:30 to 10:30 a.m., 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
  • Hammarskjold Middle School:  9:00 to 10:00 a.m., 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.
  • Churchill Junior High School: 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
  • East Brunswick High School:  8:15 to 9:15 a.m., 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

In order to minimize the disruption, visitors are asked to please not bring younger children with them and that they come only during the times designated above. In order to make sure that there is space for everyone who wants to visit, please limit time in each classroom. When visiting, please check in at the security desk where you will be asked to show identification and you will receive a visitor’s pass.

The district hopes that all parents will be able to participate in this celebration. It is a unique opportunity to witness a typical day inside our schools.

HAMMARSKJOLD MIDDLE SCHOOL PBSIS PROGRAM IS SPONSORING A ZUMBA FUNDRAISER ON TUESDAY, NOV. 12 AT 7 p.m.

Come have some fun at the Hammarskjold Middle School Cafeteria, 200 Rues Lane from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 12. Get a great workout with licensed ZUMBA instructor Jaye Kogut and raise money to support the PBSIS (Positive Behavior Support in School) program at HMS. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Adults only please. $10 per person at the door.

EAST BRUNSWICK’S FROST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTA TO HOLD VENDOR NIGHT ON NOV. 15

Do your holiday shopping on Nov. 15 at the Frost School Vendor Sale. The PTA sponsored event will take place from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the school, 65 Frost Avenue. Vendors include: Mary Kay Cosmetics, Sports Memorabilia and comic books, Gold Canyon Candles, Tupperware, Protégé Education Center (tutoring) and many handmade jewelry designers. There will be many more.  The event is free.  Each vendor will be donating a door prize which will be given away during the evening.  Some valuing up to $60. Baked goods will be available for purchase. All proceeds will be used to support cultural arts and technology in the school. For more information, please contact Jen Simos at 732-236-7131.

EAST BRUNSWICK HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA CLUB PROUDLY PRESENTS THE CRUCIBLE ON NOVEMBER  21 -23

The East Brunswick High School Drama Club will perform The Crucible by the American playwright Arthur Miller. Set in the Puritan New England town of Salem, Massachusetts, it is a story of how the social intolerance of the time led to hysteria and the famous Salem Witch Trials. Come enjoy the show and support our talented students at the East Brunswick High School’s Joseph Sweeney Auditorium, 380 Cranbury Road at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23. Tickets are $6 for students/senior citizens and $12 for adults. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Reserve seats are available on line at ebhsdrama.org. General admission tickets will be sold at the door.

CHITTICK SCHOOL PTA TO SPONSOR AN EVENING WITH THE HARLEM WIZARDS ON NOV. 22

Enjoy a fabulous display of tricks, coordinated ball handling, fancy passing and aerodynamic athleticism combined with high-energy comedy and audience interaction. It’s the Harlem Wizards vs. The Chittick Cheetahs at Churchill Junior High School, 18 Norton Road, East Brunswick, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Harlemwizards.com. Students & Seniors $10 in advance, $12 at the door-Adults $12 in advance, $15 at the door

THE EAST BRUNSWICK EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO SPONSOR A BOOK FAIR AT BARNES AND NOBLE ON NOV. 23

Shop at Barnes and Noble at the Brunswick Square Mall on Saturday, November 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and support the East Brunswick Education Foundation (EBEF). Barnes & Noble has something for everyone on your holiday shopping list. Students and staff will share favorite books, written works and other presentations throughout the day. A percentage of all sales, including café purchases, will benefit the EBEF when the appropriate voucher is presented to the cashier at check out. Unable to make it to the store on November 23?
