Decoding the song "American Pie" at East Brunswick Public Library

Presented by Angus Kress Gillespie, PhD, Rutgers University. Join us for a commemoration on the 52nd anniversary of “The Day the Music Died.” We remember with sorrow the deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper (Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr.) that took place in an airplane crash on February 3, 1959, during a snowstorm near Clear Lake, Iowa. The song American Pie, inspired by the events of that fateful day, is well known for its cryptic lyrics and has long been the subject of curiosity. In this program, Prof. Gillespie will attempt to decode the meaning of the lyrics.
