A former employee at Rutgers University is accusing the University’s women's college dean of firing her last October because she is a lesbian, mycentraljersey.com reports. Rutgers is also named in the lawsuit.

Laura Federico accuses Douglass Residential College Dean Jacquelyn Litt of firing her from a Senior Public Relations position at the University for being a lesbian, according to the report.

She told mycentraljersey.com Litt openly feels "women who had men behind them were stronger and better employees."

In its response, Rutgers claims Federico was fired because of her inability to meet deadlines, according to the report.

Federico filed the lawsuit in January, according to the report. She was hired in November of 2011 to help promote the women’s college. Her work was done in writing, and needed "substantial revisions, changes or reworking," according to the report.

Litt was the founding chair of the Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Missouri before coming to Rutgers in 2010, according to her biography on Rutgers’ website.
