Local Students in College Receive Accolades

Awards and honors for college students.

The following students received academic awards at their at their respective colleges:

Elsa Chen, a member of the Class of 2015 at Skidmore College, received academic recognition at the college this spring. She is the daughter of Simon and Ling Chen of East Brunswick .

Chen was selected for membership in the Periclean Honors Forum, which works to strengthen intellectual life at Skidmore and especially to encourage the academic aspirations of highly motivated and talented students. Formal membership in is based on academic accomplishment.

Shea Olcheski, a freshman Professional Writing major at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named to the Dean's List for the Spring 2012 semester. To be eligible for this honor, a student must be registered for at least 12 academic credit hours and earn a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Douglas Fischer was recently honored as a Merrimack College Presidential Scholar in recognition of strong academic achievements at the Honors Convocation held on the campus. To be named a Presidential Scholar, a senior-year student must have achieved a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher, based on a 4.0 grading system. The Convocation was attended by parents/family/friends of the students, who acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the outstanding students. Fischer is a Civil Engineering major.

Melissa Moskowitz  was recently honored at Union College's annual Prize Day celebration. Moskowitz was given the David S. Kaplan (1982) Prize, given to a student applying to participate in a term abroad, with preference to a major in political science.
