Mattis Wins Discus at State Championships

Leonard Robbins 7th in 200, Bianca Nfonoyim 8th in 800

East Brunswick High School junior Sam Mattis made it a clean sweep in the state meet series as he as he won the discus with a throw of 207-feet 2-inches. The throw is a Middlesex County record, a State junior class record, and is the second best in the country this year.

In the 4x100 meter relay the boys team appeared to have won the race but they were disqualified when one of the handoffs was ruled to be out of the zone.

Leonard Robbins was 7th in the 200 with a time of 21.80. Bianca Nfonoyim 8th in 800 in 2:16.12, and Alewxander Malveaux was 17th in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.09.

In a strange turn of events the meet was postponed due to severe weather in the middle of the seeded heat of the boys 3200 meter run. With less than 2 laps to go in the race lightening in the area forced officials to stop the race.

The meet is scheduled to resume Monday 6/13 at 6 p.m. at Old Bridge's Lombardi Field. Events to be completed include the boys and girls 3200, and 4x400 relays, boys shot put, boys long jump, girls triple jump, and girls javelin.
