Proposed School Budget Includes Construction Projects, Tax Increase

The East Brunswick School Board has approved a $134 million budget.

The township school district has proposed a number of construction improvement projects, new teacher positions and technology upgrades in the 2013-14 school budget.

The $134 million budget will be supported by a $113.2 million tax levy.

East Brunswick homeowners will see the school tax rate increase 13 cents from $6.09 to $6.22 for the 2013-14 school year, according to a report in the East Brunswick Sentinel.

A house assessed at $200,000 would pay a total of $12,440 in school taxes, according to the report.

Highlights in the budget include a number of construction projects at several schools, including new bleachers in the high school gymnasium, a new roof on Robert Frost Elementary School, and parking lot paving at Irwin Elementary School.

The district plans to hire two part-time math/special education teachers and two part-time English/special education teachers at Churchill Junior High School according to budget documents on the district website.

A human resources intern, two part-time aides at Churchill, a part-time aide at Irwin Elementary School and a weight room coach are also on the hiring docket, according to the district.
