Whiz Kid: Joshua Redona

Joshua Redona is this week's Patch Whiz Kid.

Each week, East Brunswick Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.

This week, Frost teacher Jessica Martilotto nominated third-grader Joshua Redona. Congratulations Joshua, you’re this week’s Patch Whiz Kid.

Here is what Martilotto had to say about Joshua.

“Third-grader Joshua Redona is Frost’s latest Whiz Kid! Joshua is a young boy with many talents.  His hands are his best tools!  Joshua loves doing magic tricks and can perform over 30 tricks. He is a self-taught magician and loves to show off his latest tricks.  He has amazed his classmates and his teachers. He even lets some lucky classmates in on his magician’s secrets. Joshua told us about his favorite trick- the Slap Trick.  ‘It’s the one where you let the spectator pick a card, you shuffle the deck once, twice, three times, and when you show the person their card, at first it’s not there…but, when you slap the deck, the card appears!’

“Magic makes Josh happy, and he’s proud when he does a new trick, but he’s most proud of being able to solve the Rubik’s cube in 30 seconds flat!  He’s inspired many classmates to try to solve the Rubik’s cube puzzle, but Joshua remains the champion.  Even still, he shares his secrets with his friends so they can learn to be quick too!

“Joshua’s latest hobby which he’s also mastered is creating origami figures. He can make over 25 different designs including the crane, butterfly, dragon and penguin. His favorite design to create is the hummingbird. Once again, Joshua enjoys sharing his talents.  Every day at recess he can be found teaching other students how to make origami figures, or making figures for them.  Joshua’s talents don’t end there! His hands are his best tool once again when he plays beautiful tunes on the piano and writes creative stories. Joshua is a motivated, talented, and generous young boy, and that’s why he’s Frost’s latest Whiz Kid!'
