Whiz Kid: Nathan Yu

Warnstorfer student Nathan Yu is this week's Patch Whiz Kid!

Each week, East Brunswick Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.

This week, Warnsdorfer School fifth grade teachers JoAnn Yonchiuk and Marsha Schneider nominated student 10-year-old Nathan Yu. Congratulations Nathan, you are this week’s Patch Wiz Kid.

Here is what the teachers had to say about Nathan.

“Nathan is an outstanding citizen and student at Warnsdorfer School.  His ability to balance both schoolwork and a budding fencing career has shown the characteristics of a future scholar athlete.  On a daily basis Nathan consistently puts for effort that goes above and beyond to keep his grades at an above average level.  In class Nathan peer tutors his classmates in math.  In ILA Nathan always will take a challenge to push himself to read books that are challenging.  Nathan continually shows caring, kindness, respect for others and responsibility.  He is a model for other students.

“As for fencing, Nathan has been fencing for about 3 years now. He first started lessons with Atlantic Fencing Club, then with The Fencers Club in NYC, and now is back with Atlantic Fencing Club, under coach Istvan Marton. Nathan has been competing in various local and regional tournaments, receiving many (rough count, about 10) top honor medals. He won a 1st place medal for the very first competition that he entered! The other notable medal was the 1st place medal in the Magda Nyari 2010 competition, Y10 division.
