East Brunswick Football Team Picks Up First Win

The girls' tennis team won the Greater Middlesex County tournament.

The East Brunswick High School football team made its win into the win column Friday night with two second quarter touchdowns in a 14-12 win over North Brunswick, according to nj.com.

The touchdowns came with the Bears trailing 6-0. Quarterback Kevin Hemmings hit Javon Ganzaroli with a 15-yard pass for the first score. Jon Gerhatz then found the end zone on a 5-yard run.

Kim Flynn's two PATs proved to be the difference. North Brunswick was unsuccessful in a pair of two-point conversion attempts.

East Brunswick (1-2) attempts to even its record Friday night when it visits Monroe for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Boys' soccer

East Brunswick 3, Old Bridge 2: The Bears improved to 9-0 with a win on Saturday. Kevin Walsh, Dominic Bohorquez and Adam Rosa each scored for the Bears. Alex Mora and Joshua Barkoff each had an assist. Goalie Dennis Kotenko made six stops.

East Brunswick 2, South Brunswick 1: The Bears broke a 1-1 halftime tie in the second half to remain unbeaten. Joey Gudzak and Adam Rosa scored for East Brunswick. Jorge De la bandera scored South Brunswick's goal.

East Brunswick keeper Dennis Kotenko made six saves. South Brunswick goalie Erich Kaiser stopped 12 shots in the loss.

East Brunswick 4, South Plainfield 0: Adam Rosa led the way for the Bears with two goals. Alex Mora and Kevin Walsh each added a score, and Keysean Brant-Sharp, Anik Ray, Noah Levine and Joshua Barkoff each contributed an assist. Goalie Dennis Kotenko made five saves.

Girls' soccer

East Brunswick 2, South Brunswick 0: The Bears improved to 7-0-1 behind goals from Ellie diLiberto and Sydney Rosa. Goalie Alex Kalafor denied six shots.

South Brunswick goalie Sidney Schneider stopped 11 shots, but South Brunswick dropped below .500 at 3-4.

East Brunswick 2, Old Bridge 1: Goalie Alex Kalafor made 17 saves and East Brunswick scored the winning goal in the second half. Kaitlyn Roughan had a goal and an assist. Ellie diLiberto also found the back of the net.

East Brunswick 4, J.P. Stevens 1: Ellie diLiberto found the back of the net twice to lead the Bears. Margaret Lee had a goal and an assist. Sydney Rosa rounded out the scoring with a goal. Assists came from Ghilene Joseph, Carla LaRocca and Kaitlyn Roughan.

Girls' tennis

The girls' tennis team won the Greater Middlesex County tournament by winning four of the five available championships, including both doubles titles. They also won two singles titles, and advanced to the finals in all three singles and both doubles categories.
