East Brunswick Tennis Team Falls in Central Jersey Group 4 Semifinals

The boys' and girls' soccer teams continue to see success this season.

The East Brunswick High School girls’ tennis team suffered its first defeat of the season in the semifinals of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 playoffs, according to nj.com.

Second-seeded East Brunswick fell to No. 3 Montgomery, 4-1.

First singles player Jennifer Chen picked up the only win in the loss, defeating Emily Szkudlarski, 6-0, 6-3.

Third singles player Danna Tsay went three sets before falling to Lilly Chu, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. The second doubles team of Ananya Prakash and Kaitlyn Wang also went three sets, losing to Nicole Lorenzi and Kim Szakats, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

East Brunswick cruised into its quarterfinal matchup with No. 7 Marlboro, 5-0.

First singles player Jennifer Chen defeated Hayley Barnett, 6-4, 6-2.

Second singles player Hannah Molk downed Celine Lee, 6-0, 6-4. Third singles player Danna Tsay slipped past Rachel Ma, 6-2, 6-3.

The first doubles duo of Adelina Begu and Antoinette Gayo pulled out a close victory over Elizabeth Einstein and Raquel Rosen, 7-6, 6-4.

The second doubles squad of Annaya Prakash and Kaitlin Wang defeated Michelle Dubinsky and Nikitha Shakamuri, 6-3, 6-2.

East Brunswick is 12-1 this year.

Boys' soccer

East Brunswick 5, Piscataway 0: Adam Rosa led the way with two goals for East Brunswick, which improved to 13-1-1. Robert Kamil, Kevin Walsh and Brandon Santos each found the back of the net.

Derek Morgen had two assists. Alex Mora and Dominic Bohorquez each had an assist. Goalie Ryan Goydos made one save.

East Brunswick 2, North Brunswick 0: Keysean Brant-Sharp and Domonic Bohorquez each scored in the first half, and the Bears never looked back. Goalie Dennis Kotenko stopped five shots in the shutout win. 

East Brunswick 1, Monroe 1: Each team scored in the first half. Kevin Walsh scored for East Brunswick, with an assist from Keysean Brant-Sharp. Goalie Dennis Kotenko made five saves.

Girls' soccer

East Brunswick 5, Woodbridge 0: After a scoreless first half, East Brunswick came alive for five goals.

Gabrielle Sachs led the way with two goals, and Breanna Carbone had a goal and an assist. Carla LaRocca and Sydney Rosa also found the back of the net. Kaitlin Roughan assisted on two goals. Gabrielle DiLiberto and Katrina Nguyen-Damary also provided assists.

Goalies Alex Kalafor and Gabrielle Benzillo split the shutout win, each making one save.

Woodbridge goalie Maura Walsh made 15 saves.

Monroe 2, East Brunswick 1: Monroe handed East Brunswick its first loss of the season.

After falling behind 1-0 at halftime, Gabriella DiLiberto put East Brunswick on the board. Monroe posted a second goal in the second half to pull away with the upset win.

East Brunswick goalie Alex Kalafor stopped five shots. The Bears are now 11-1-1 this season. Monroe improved to 6-5-1.

Football

Monroe remained undefeated with a 44-0 win over East Brunswick. It improved to 5-0, while East Brunswick fell to 1-3. East Brunswick hosts Manalapan on Friday, 7 p.m.
