Benefits of strength training

The benefits of strength training are more than what meets the eye......

Many people seem to really enjoy working with weights.  Some of you may not realize that on days when you do not actually have weights in your hands, that you are also working your arms, legs and abs. Every time you do a push up,  plank,  squat or  sit up, you are using your own body weight as resistance. There are many researched benefits of resistance training/ strength training, besides the size of your biceps and chest muscles.  Strength training can develop strong bones, it increases bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis. It also can help control your weight, as you gain muscle, your body begins to burn calories more efficiently.  Strength training can also boost your stamina because the stronger you get, the less fatigued you will be. Building a stronger core also contributes to better balance which can help in all of your daily tasks. Resistance training can reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic conditions, including back pain, arthritis, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and  blood pressure. The best part is that you feel better about yourself  and see yourself getting stronger everyday! The longer you are exercising, the more you will be seeing and experiencing all of these AMAZING benefits of resistance training! I have been exercising since I was in high school, I was a gymnast, which required a ton of weight resistant exercises.  Then I went to college, and became a runner and an aerobic instructor then a personal trainer. I have seen my own body get stronger, leaner and healthier by following a healthy diet, doing cardio and incorporating strength training. Strength training may make you sore at times, but it is definitely worth the benefits of having stronger bones and joints.  Being stronger not only has so many health benefits, but it also increases your confidence and increases your self esteem!! With all of these amazing benefits, it hard to find a reason not to incorporate strength training ( not only lifting weights, but using your own body weight as well)  into your workouts at 3 times a week.
 Think healthy, be healthy!!!
