Learn about Changes to the Division of Developmental Disabilities and Find Out What's Next for Graduating Students with Special Needs

The Gateway School, a special needs school in Carteret NJ,  dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing educational experience, presents two free informational sessions in May, for special education administrators, child study team members, guidance counselors, social workers, parents, and those who work or care for adolescents or young adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.
“Navigating the Changes in the Human Service Super System” takes place on Friday, May 9th from 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at The Gateway School, 60 High Street, Carteret, NJ.    The two speakers, Jennifer Joyce, Director of Employment, Transition, and Day Services, from the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and Linda Wilson, Resource Development Specialist from the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (formerly DYFS), will inform attendees about the recent changes in both DDD and DCF, the two main players in services for students with disabling conditions.  They will also discuss the changes in service delivery and the application process for students and their families.  This information will benefit special education administrators, child study team members, guidance counselors, social workers, and parents.  Lunch will be served.  For more information and to register for this free event, call The Gateway School at 732-541-4400 by May 1st or visit www.thegatewayschool.com
Then, on Tuesday, May 20th, from 1:30p.m – 2:30 p.m., from the comfort of your work or home computer, log onto the Gateway Webinar, “What’s Next For Graduating Students with Special Needs? Understanding the Key Role of the Support Coordinator”.  Presenter Michelle J. Barker, Support Coordinator, from Stepping Stones - A Life Foundation, will discuss the role of the Support Coordinator in accessing adult services.  Attendees will also learn about the role of the family and consumer in coordinating an implementing the services, and the timeline that parents and families need to follow.  This information will benefit special education administrators, child study team members, guidance counselors, social workers and parents.    To register please visit www.thegatewayschool.com and click on the webinar banner or call 732-531-4400 for more information.
