Buddy Ball is an annual program that teaches basketball skills to school-age children and teens with special needs.
Even if you're not a fan of basketball, Saturday's game at Churchill school will have you applauding every basket. On Saturday, Fast Break's Buddy Ball Division will hold its sixth annual Findlay Urban Buddy Ball Game, an exercise in teamwork, perseverance and personal accomplishment. Fast Break Buddy Ball has provided a basketball league for the last 10 years to school-age kids and teens with special needs. On Saturday, the players, paired with their PALS, volunteer players who assist their "buddies" with learning the sport, will have their annual game, showing off the skills they have learned through Buddy Ball. The game will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in the gym of Churchill Junior High School, 18 Norton Road. It is free and open to the …

The 12U and 14U Chaos Fastpitch Travel Softball teams made up of girls from Middlesex County joined together with the East Brunswick Township Buddy Ball program to play a friendly game of baseball at the Heavenly Farms "Field of Dreams." This was the second year that these teams joined together for a night of fun. The game was full of fabulous plays from both teams and a Solo Home Run over the fence by the Buddy Ball team. Chaos players presented each Buddy Ball player with an MVP medal and everyone shared in an assortment of sweets afterwards. This night has become a special event for both teams and we all look forward to when we meet again on the fields.

Buddy Ball levels the playing field for everyone.
The Churchill Junior High School auditorium was packed Saturday with members of the East Brunswick community shouting and smiling as they cheered on the participants in Ward Byrne’s Fastbreak Buddy Ball’s 5th Annual Basketball Game Day. The game was played in memory of 10-year-old Findlay Urban, a member of the East Brunswick Buddy Ball Baseball and Fastbreak Buddy Ball Basketball who died in March of 2010. The Buddy Ball division partners special needs athletes with “PALs,” who assist the players on the court and during practices and games. Brad Cregge, session coordinator, and Buddy Ball PAL, Eric Ventrice, made the introductions for both All-star teams to start off the event. Buddy Ball players Kelly Conlon and Robert Cipoletti were …

Registration for Fastbreak Buddy Ball begins Saturday at Chittick School.
Some are pretty good at the game. Some others are not. Some have been playing the game for years. Others are just getting their feet wet. But none of that matters, because when athletes take to the court as part of the Fastbreak Basketball Buddy Ball Division, what counts most is that they are having fun. “We take them through a year where we work on some skills, then come February we have a game where all 60 to 70 wind up playing in a huge game at Churchill,” said Jon Alba, a long time coach and organizer of the Buddy ball program. The Buddy Ball Division of Fastbreak invites children and young adults with special needs to learn the fundamentals of basketball, play and have fun. The program usually has between 60 and 70 players every year…
