Three Seek Seats on School Board

Vicki Becker, Meredith Shaw and Kevin McEvoy will run for seats on the East Brunswick Board of Education.

The names of three people who want to serve on the East Brunswick Board of Education will be on the ballot in November. Incumbents Vicki Becker and Meredith Shaw will be seeking three-year seats on the school board as will newcomer Kevin McEvoy. All three filed their applications to run before the Tuesday deadline. Incumbent Susan Karp did not file an application to run again. There are three, three-year seats up for grabs. Thirty-six percent of the 169 surveyed said that they wanted another candidate to enter the race. The survey, conducted earlier this week, comes as the Republican establishment in Washington is looking for new candidates to enter the race. Christie, who has continually tempered speculation that he wants to run for …

Voters approved a $128 million school spending plan Wednesday that called for a $108,924,563 tax levy by a vote of 2,524 to 2,060. The budget carries a school tax rate increase of 9.88 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. That means the owner of a home assessed at $100,000 can expect to pay $98.80 more in school taxes next year. The budget calls for the elimination of 25 full time teachers. Voters also re-elected incumbents  Laurie Lachs…
