Carl Thomore's Rookie Card

Take a gander of a baseball card from EBHS graduate Carl Thomore's rookie year.

East Brunswick High School graduate Carl Thomore has been playing baseball for almost all of his life, and when he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies as the 77th pick in the Major League Baseball draft in June 2011, years of blood, sweat and tears finally paid off. But to make his professional debut official, he had to have a Rookie baseball card. Here’s one, but you can find dozens for sale on eBay. Show your support for Carl by picking one up if you have a chance. The Subway card above one above shows Carl as a member of the Rockies’ minor league team, Grand Junction Rockies, and was furnished by Carl’s father, Ken Thomore. Here’s what it says on the back: Rockies Ramblings: Hit .192 (30x156) with 3 home runs and 25 RBI for Casper in …

EBHS Grad Gears Up for Spring Training

Carl Thomore is getting ready for his second season playing professional baseball.

Carl Thomore doesn’t really set long term goals, but he knows what he wants to do—play Major League Baseball, and to do that he’ll have to work at the little things. “I don’t really set long term goals, but my long term goal is to play in the majors,” he said last week. “What gets you there is making small goals , day to day goals. You make little goals for yourself and it adds up to the big picture.” The East Brunswick High School graduate was drafted by the Colorado Rockies as the 77th pick in the Major League Baseball draft in June. Following graduation, he played with the Casper Ghosts in the Pioneer League where he played 43 games, batted .192, hit 8 doubles, three home runs, and had 25 RBI in 156 at bats. “I had to rotate in with …

Biggest Stories of Patch's First Year

They are not all happy, but 2011's biggest are ones that will be remembered.

I've been a resident of East Brunswick since 2000. But, since I started covering the town for Patch, I've become a little bit embarrasssed by how much I didn't know about the town. Sure, I knew more than some. I knew East Brunswick was more than Route 18, I knew it had excellent schools and wonderful parks and a top-notch library. But what I didn't know was the people—the ones who make the town go, and give it the character and the color that make it a terrific place to live. While I've had to spend time learning about past school and township budgets, and lawsuits and the names of who runs what (and the names of who really runs what), I have to say that the best part about covering East brunswick has been the people I've met, many of whom…

Draft a Beginning and an End for EBHS Star

Carl Thomore is looking ahead to beginning his Major League Baseball career.

The Thomore’s had a separate room all prepared for the day, a Draft Room, from which Carl Thomore, his father Ken, and others could monitor the Major League Baseball Draft and field questions and phone calls. They spent a lot of time in that room on Monday and Tuesday, and almost as much time on the phone speaking with ball clubs. In the end, the last phone call from the Colorado Rockies, when the club said they would draft Carl as the 77th pick in this week’s major League Baseball Draft. “Words can’t describe it, that’s what I’ve been saying to everyone,” said Carl, hours after receiving the news that he would soon be a Colorado Rocky. “Any pro club would have been great, but the Rockies, with the relationship with Coach (Mike) Garlatti, …

The right hander just finished up his fourth season with the Bears. EBHS Senior Has Big League Tools (With Video)

East Brunswick High School senior Carl Thomore is hoping to be drafted by Major League Baseball in June.

Carl Thomore's baseball career began like everyone else's--a few practices during the week, a game on Saturday and then, if he was lucky, maybe pizza and a trophy at the end of the season. Now a high school senior on the verge of what could be a long professional baseball career, Carl's routine has changed only slightly--practice every night during the week, games whenever they're scheduled and, if he's lucky, a shot at a Major League Baseball career. "There's a surplus of kids who are ultra talented, but he's got a passion for it. He can do it all, everything you want somebody to do--run, hit, throw, catch--but he's a focused kid and wants to be a big leaguer," said Mike Garlatti, a Northeast Regional scout for the Colorado Rockies and …
