What do you think about the new Wal-Mart?
Work began this week on the new Wal-Mart, to be located at the old Route 18 flea market. Though there is still a lot of work to be done, much of the parking lot has been ripped up, and a portion of the building along Tices Lane has been demolished. The work is part of a two-phase project that will see a 151,507-square-foot Wal-Mart built on the “Golden Triangle” site, located at the corner of Tices Lane and Route 18 and bordered to the east by the Old Bridge Turnpike. The second phase includes a 400 unit, four-story, 520,678-square-foot apartment complex on land bordered by the Old Bridge Turnpike, Tices Lane. With work finally started, tell Patch what you think? There were trees everywhere. They were across roads, on top of homes, in power lines, and on top of cars. For some, it might have been a great chance to make some money, especially for people who specialize in landscaping. But for John Broehl, of Broehl’s Lawn Maintenance, Inc., the destruction left by Hurricane Sandy was a chance to help. “I looked at Sandy as a natural disaster, where people in our town were in true need of assistance, in need of help, and that supersedes anything,” he said. Following the storm, Broehl reached out to Austin Kosik, Coordinator of Emergency Management, and asked how he could help. His offer was quickly accepted, and Broehl volunteered his employees, all equipped with chainsaws, to assist the town in …
