Area rescue workers took advantage of frozen lakes to hone their rescue skills.
With almost two weeks of freezing temperatures, rescue workers headed to frozen lakes in the area to hone their rescue skills. At Farrington Lake, near Church Lane, fire fighters and rescue workers from East Brunswick and elswhere cut through the ice, put on wet suits and practiced water rescues in below freezing temperatures. There’s something fishy about Farrington Lake. On Wednesday, the state Division of Fish and Wildlife released rainbow and brook trout into the lake as part of it’s regular stocking program. During a two week period, more than 20,000 trout were released into streams and ponds in 17 New Jersey counties, providing anglers with some good autumn fishing across the state, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin said. Two-year old brook and rainbow trout, averaging 14-to-16 inches, are being stocked in 17 streams and 15 ponds and lakes statewide. After running and then canoeing away, two of the suspects were caught after police, and the K-9 unit, tracked them down.
East Brunswick Police charged three men with burglary and conspiracy after they allegedly broke into a South Drive residence Friday, and then fled on foot, and then by canoe, before being apprehended Police said that Jorge Guevara, 31, of Jamaica, N.Y., Carlos Parra, 31, of Elmhurst, N.Y., and Celso Aragon-Mina, 29, of Corona, N.Y., fled the scene after several police units responded at approximately 4 p.m. to a report of an attempted burglary in progress. According to police, a neighbor said he saw two males get out of a car that had New York plates and enter the backyard of the home. With Farrington Lake frozen and snow falling, a group of hockey lovers took to the ice, Saturday.
The snow was falling for the third time in as many weeks. The lake was frozen. It was cold. In other words, the weather was perfect. On Saturday, this group took advantage of the beautiful day by grabbing their sticks, lacing up their skates and hitting Farrington Lake in Bicentennial Park for a few hours of hockey.
