Lights celebrating Hanukkah and Christmas are on display at the municipal complex.
East Brunswick is celebrating the holidays with a light show of its own. On Saturday, the first day of Hanukkah, the township's Menorah was lit up. Bowne-Munro students created cards to be sent to U.S. Troops.
Students at Bowne-Munro got the holiday season started by sharing the joy with American troops. Students in the school's art classes created cards for the Holiday Mail for Heroes program and sent them out to lift the spirits of those who need it. "To kick-off the holiday season, Bowne-Munro's art classes created festive cards as part of the Red Cross 'Holiday Mail for Heroes' program. The cards are being forwarded to our troops to serve as small pick-me-ups and tokens of our appreciation for those that aren't able to spend the holidays with their loved ones," said art techer Lisa Gombas.

Donations helped provide a record number of families for Thanksgiving.
Just a few short days ago, the East Brunswick annual Holiday Food Drive and Gift Basket Program was in desperate need. With a record number of families in need—146, plus an additional 16 seniors and others—organizers of the annual food drive were wondering where the food would come from. But as usual, the generosity of East Brunswick residents came through. “Once again people stepped up and helped us provide food and gift cards for 146 East Brunswick families and 16 seniors and others who are in need,” said Recreation Supervisor Karen Kesckes. “A huge thank you to all those generous individuals, Scouts, groups and organizations! Help an East Brunswick family in need for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah.
East Brunswick is conducting its annual Holiday Food and Gift Basket Program and needs people, groups or organizations to adopt needy families in East Brunswick. Those who “adopt” these families will then provide them with food and or gift baskets for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah. Don’t worry if you don’t have time to shop, you can still help by purchasing gift certificates to grocery or department stories These cards will then be distributed those in need.
