Council Reorganizes, names appointments to township boards and groups.
Two members and the mayor took the oath of office Monday during the Township Council’s reorganization meeting. Democrat council members Denise Contrino and Nancy Pinkin, and Democrat Mayor David Stahl were elected to four-year terms in November. The evening began with a Salute to the Flab by Brownie and Junior Girl Scout Troop 80162, followed by an invocation by the Rev. Susan Rak of the Unitarian Society. Mayor Stahl was sworn in by Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Bradley J. Ferencz; and Contrino and Pinkin by East Brunswick Municipal Judge Paul J. Camille Ferraro, James Wendell and Mike Hughes will be sworn into four-year terms tonight at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Building.
Three Republicans will be sworn into the Township Council tonight, at 7 p.m., giving the party a majority for the first time in years. Camille Ferraro, James Wendell and Mike Hughes each won seats to the Township Council in November. Ferraro was reelected, having been elected in 2009 to finish the final year of an unexpired term. All three said they look forward to working with current council members and Mayor David Stahl on a variety of issues, including the 2011 budget, revitalizing parts of Route 18, and on finding ways to get more resident involvement in the government. The Township Council will get a new look on Monday. During the 7 p.m. reorganization meeting, three Republicans will be sworn in to four-year terms, giving them the majority for the first time in years. "I'm excited over the chance that we'll have some positive input into what's going on with the Golden Triangle and how certain decisions are made," said Councilwoman Camille Ferraro.
