Sam Mattis Wins Penn Relays

The EBHS senior threw the discuss 211 feet and 11 inches.

Sam Mattis is a Champion of America after winning the Penn Relays last week for discus. “It really feels great, I’ve been so close and it feel like I really accomplished something,” said the East Brunswick High School senior. “I finally did what I set out to do.” Sam took first place at the tournament with a throw of 211 feet and 11 inches. The next closest throw was 193 feet and 4 inches. For Sam, the victory was the fulfillment of a goal that he’d set after placing second in the competition for the past three years. But that doesn’t mean he is content to rest on his laurels. Lockhart-Robbins Leads Bears with Four Medals at the Group IV Meet

Mattis Wins Discus, Second in Shot Put

East Brunswick High School’s Leonard Lockhart-Robbins led the Bears winning four medals at the Group IV track and Field Championships. Lockhart-Robbins was first in the 200 meter dash, second in the 400 meter run, third in the 100 meter dash and anchored the Bears third place 4x400 meter relay. Sam Mattis medaled in two events for the Bears; winning the discus and placing second in the shot put. The boys team placed second in the team, scoring losing by 1-point to Oakcrest. The team scoring came down to the final event – the 4x400 meter relay. The 4-point difference between Oakcrest’s first place finish East Brunswick’s third place finish allowed Oakcrest to edge out the Bears by a single point. Lockhart-Robbins, Mattis, and the 4x400 …
