The team won the Garden Empire Volleyball Association’s Regional Championship in Club Division.
On Saturday, April 27, the Helios Volleyball Club sent its Girls’ 13 and under team, Helios 13 Malibu, to the Powerzone Volleyball Center in Denville, NJ, to compete in the Regional championship tournament of the Garden Empire Volleyball Association (“GEVA”). The top 12 teams from GEVA competed in Long Island that day at the Open level. Helios started the day shorthanded, with several players injured or unable to join the squad until later in the day, and they looked to be in some danger as they lost their opening match to Rival Volleyball Club out of Long Island. Sign up now for the first ever season of Helios volleyball! The Helios Volleyball Club is beginning its inaugural season and is accepting registrations for girls born between Sept. 1, 1999 and Aug. 31, 2004. The club is already nearing half-capacity; so all registrations are subject to acceptance by the club. Club founder Charles Sheard said no registration checks will be cashed until registrations are accepted. Sessions will last for one hour for 12 …

About the only thing one needs to know about the East Brunswick High School girls volleyball team is that Coach Melissa Strauss calls 2010's 16-9 record a "down season for us." That's how good East Brunswick has been. Strauss is entering her seventh season for what has become a very successful program at East Brunswick. "We've had a lot of success," Strauss noted. East Brunswick has the talent to continue winning this season. Sarah Gunia (outside hitter), Kelsey Schuster (setter), Emily Harris (libero, a defensive player) and Abby Patalot (opposite hitter) are …
