Fire Elections Set for Today

Voters get their say on fire budgets and Board of Fire Commissioners.

 Fire Elections are today. Here is a rundown of what voters will be casting ballots for. Polls are open 2 to 9 p.m. Fire District No. 1 Voters in District No. 1, Old Bridge Fire Department, will head to the station at 5 Pine Street. This year’s budget calls for a tax rate of 25 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Under that rate, the owner of a home assessed at $100,000 can expect to pay $250 in fire taxes. The district budget is $2.449 million. Bruce Smith and James Whalen are seeking three-year seats on the Board of Fire Commissioners.  Fire District No. 2 Voters in District No. 2, Independent Fire Company, will cast their votes at 216 Joseph St. This year’s budget calls for a tax rate of 10 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
