On the article Village Council at Odds Over $8,000 Invoice From Councilman Tom Riche's Company

I think the article is very balanced, taking into account virtually all of the details and arguments that emerged. It's not my intent to mislead with the headline – I've revised it, since the work was authorized by the fire chief and CFO, but not appropriated by the council. The primary argument from Aronsohn is the $8,000 invoice was improper since it wasn't appropriated.

On the article Report: Judge Finds Ridgewood Student Bullied Girl, Called Her 'Fat,' 'Horse'

ReplyAlso, no one has "sued" anyone here, as far as I'm aware. The district determined the 8th grade boy had violated the "Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights" and the boy's father appealed the ruling, as is his right. An administrative law judge upheld Ridgewood's ruling. Education Commissioner Christopher Cerf now can uphold, reject or modify the ruling.

ReplyJust to clarify a few things:
According to The Record, the classmate did NOT want the schools to investigate. She was reportedly worried over further social issues if there was an investigation. The schools thought it was something that should be followed up on, not the girl.
The boy's father filed the appeal because he worries colleges would see his son's file with this on it. While Ridgewood doesn't send it to college, he told The Record it might not be the case if his family moves to another district.
In total, the boy received two after-school detentions as a punishment.

Clearly it was an editing error (I decided to delete the section on "blew through a light" since it repeated the subhed and must have missed a word). Are you volunteering to be my proofreader?

No, it's drawing from the $500,000 in salary breakage the district has. The position will likely be somewhere in the low-to-mid $100K range.

Actually, you'll find quite a few "dissenting" comments posted above. I'm very lenient about comments (more so than many of the commenters would like, in fact). I even allowed one calling me a "Nazi". How fascist of me!
Since you're clearly a constitutional scholar, I probably don't have to tell you that your first amendment rights are not absolute – you do not specifically have the right to name-call with profanities on this website.

Pete, I doubt she has any relationship to Jacobsen Landscaping for two reasons; one, her name is JacobSON, not Jacobsen; two, she works as an editorial assistant at Patch HQ and is not from the area. This "What's the Going Rate" series is posted on all the sites, company-wide.
