Pursuing a Dream in Music

EBHS Junior is trying to make a name for herself in the music world.

East Brunswick High School Junior has been singing for as long as she can remember.

“I've been singing since before I even knew how to speak. I guess you could say music was my first language,” she said.

So it’s should come as no surprise when you learn that she is pursuing her passion for music by taking part in contests, benefits and performances throughout the area, including a breast cancer benefit in Hamilton, and solo work with Glen Burtnik (a musician who played with Styx and a local promoter of events such as Xmas Extravaganza) and Brenda K. Star. Over the summer she was part of Burtnik’s Summer of Love Experience Concert and performed at the Freehold Idol, Monroe Country Fair idol and elsewhere.

“I have been taking part in a variety of events such as Idol contests, school competitions, and benefits; I even recently played at a breast cancer benefit in Hamilton. I really want to get my name out there, and contests are a great way to do so. Regardless of whether I win or not, singing is and will always be my dream and various competitions are just one way I get my music out there.” she said.

While at school, Sofia takes a lot of creative electives such as musical theater and creative writing. While she loves the arts, her schedule means she doesn’t have the time to be a part of the drama club.
