Man Hits Parked Cars, Drives Into VFW Building

Three people were hurt after an accident Friday in the VFW parking lot on Cranbury Road.   

According to police, Frank Russo, 89, of East Brunswick, was backing out of a parking space in his 2007 Lincoln when he hit an unoccupied vehicle at about 6:30 p.m. That vehicle was then pushed into two other unoccupied vehicles. Russo then drove forward and ran into the into the VFW building injuring a patron inside, James Scudder. In addition, Russo’s vehicle partially deflected off the building and struck another unoccupied vehicle. 

Russo and a front seat passenger, Doris Sweetser, sustained non-life threatening injuries. A backseat passenger, Ralph Katz, sustained serious leg injuries. All three vehicle occupants and the patron inside the VFW were treated by members of the East Brunswick Rescue Squad, Spotswood EMS and Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. They were all taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
